Resources & Advice
Entering the interior design industry can be daunting and intimidating, but ASID is here to help.
Networking – Get Out There and Make Face-to-Face Contact
Becoming a member of ASID gains you access to a network with fellow interior design industry professionals. What you do with that access is completely up to you.
To get the most from your membership, you must take advantage of the opportunity to establish and foster personal relationships. That means NETWORKING. Networking requires action, and now is the best time to be more active. The saying “you only get out what you put in” holds true.
Be sure to get connected online via the ASID Texas Chapter Facebook page, the ASID Texas Chapter Twitter account, and ASID’s pages on the following social networking sites: ASID Students & Emerging Professionals Facebook Page, ASID Facebook Page, LinkedIn, Twitter.
Nothing can take the place of face-to-face conversations, however. Make it your mission to attend Chapter events like the Student Symposium and METROCON Expo & Conference, as well as national events like the ASID Annual National Conference at Dwell on Design and ASID programming at NeoCon, all the while learning about new products and resources. Just as important, take the time to participate in RealWorld DesignWeek and to attend Design Community meetings, establishing connections with local designers and industry players who will become your colleagues and resources as you advance your career.
Surfing the Net – Take Advantage of Online Resources
For solid information about the interior design industry, go to ASID’s Vimeo Channel, as well as ASID’s YouTube Channel and watch the videos “A Career in Interior Design,” “Interior Design: More Than Meets the Eye,” “The Value of Design,” “The Interior Design Process,” and “Designing for Health, Safety & Welfare.”
Other good sources about the industry include the national ASID website, Careers In Interior Design, National Council for Interior Design Qualification, and PLiNTH & CHiNTZ, The Online Interior Design Magazine.
Advancing to Allied Membership – Advance Your Career
By becoming an Allied Member immediately after your Student membership ends, you will stay connected to the largest network of interior design professionals. Your affiliation with ASID distinguishes you to the public and your potential client base, providing you with a mark of qualification that sets you apart from the competition. It allows you to build upon that solid foundation of support, values and resources. Plus, you will receive a significant savings over regular Allied membership dues if you advance right after you graduate.
The success of ASID is proven by its vast membership of interior designers, from the brightest newcomers to the wisest pioneers. Through their membership in ASID, Students, Practitioners, Educators and Industry Representatives comprise a community of people committed to interior design. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to extend those contacts – advance your membership just as soon as you graduate.
